他12岁就知道自己要成为一名交易员。或许是由于1987年股市崩盘导致其账户亏损50%的经历影响，普拉特非常厌恶亏钱。因为亏钱损耗是不仅仅是money本身，还有精神资本。
有一次，他自嘲，“在你的枪没有子弹时，一只大象从你身边经过，你会觉得自己是个超级傻瓜！令人惊奇的是，这种事会频繁发生。”
