Aktivitas bisnis di sektor manufaktur AS terus mengalami kontraksi, meskipun dengan laju yang lebih lambat pada bulan Agustus, dengan ISM Manufacturing PMI meningkat menjadi 47,2 dari 46,8 pada bulan Juli. Angka ini sedikit di bawah ekspektasi pasar sebesar 47,5.

Indeks Ketenagakerjaan PMI pulih menjadi 46 dari 43,4 pada bulan Juli, sementara Indeks Pesanan Baru turun menjadi 44,6 dari 47,4 pada periode yang sama. Terakhir, Indeks Harga yang Dibayar, komponen inflasi, naik menjadi 54 dari 52,9.

Mengomentari temuan survei tersebut, "meskipun masih dalam wilayah kontraksi, aktivitas manufaktur AS mengalami kontraksi lebih lambat dibandingkan bulan lalu," kata Timothy R. Fiore, Ketua Komite Survei Bisnis Manufaktur Institute for Supply Management (ISM). "Permintaan terus melemah, output menurun, dan input tetap akomodatif."
