KONTAN.CO.ID - BRUSSEL. The European Commission mengumumkan rencana investasi 300 miliar euro atau US$ 340 miliar secara global hingga tahun 2027 dalam proyek Global Gateway. Komisi Eropa mengklaim, anggaran itu sebagai alternatif yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan Belt and Road Initiative besutan China.
Tujuan Global Gateway adalah memperkuat rantai pasokan dan meningkatkan perdagangan Uni Eropa. Kerentanan Eropa menjadi jelas selama pandemi Covid-19. Proyek itu juga bertujuan membantu memerangi perubahan iklim dengan fokus pada digitalisasi, kesehatan, iklim dan energi dan sektor transportasi serta pendidikan dan penelitian.
