外汇市场，是指进行外汇买卖或者货币兑换的交易场所。从全球范围来看，外汇市场是一个24小时全天候运作的市场。其主要特点如下：①“有市无场”。外汇买卖是通过没有统一操作市场的行商网络进行的，不像股票交易有集中统一的地点。但是，外汇交易的网络却是全球性的，并且形成了没有组织的组织。②24小时全天候运作。外汇市场是一个全球性的市场，由于全球各金融中心的地理位置不同，亚洲市场、欧洲市场、美洲市场因时间差的关系，刚好连接成一个全天24小时连续作业的全球外汇市场。③零和游戏。由于汇率反映的是两国货币的交换比率，汇率的变化也就是一种货币价值的减少与另一种货币价值的增加。尽管外汇汇价变化很大，但是只要国家不消亡货币就不会变成废纸，即使某种货币一直下跌，它总会代表一定的价值，无非是在这种货币下跌的过程中增加了其他货币的价值。所以说外汇交易是“零和游戏”，更确切地说是国际间财富的转移，是每天都在进行的“人类财富重分配”。上述外汇市场的三个基本特点决定了： ①外汇市场是全球最大的市场；②外汇市场是全球最公平、最透明的市场。
