外汇保证金交易，也叫外汇按金交易，是利用杠杆投资的原理，在金融机构之间及金融机构与投资者之间进行的一种远期外汇买卖方式。在交易时，交易者只付出1‰ ～ 10% 的按金（即保证金），就可进行100%额度的交易，实盘交易与保证金交易在买卖赢利和亏损的金额上是完全相同的，所不同的是投资者投入的资金在数量上的差距。这种交易形式使得每一位小额投资人也可在金融市场中买卖外国货币，从而赚取收益。但是，在采取保证金形式买卖外汇时需要特别注意的问题是，由于保证金的金额虽小，但实际撬动的资金却十分庞大，而外汇汇价每日的波幅又很大，如果投资者在判断外汇走势方面失误，就很容易造成保证金全部损失。在收益放大的同时风险也被放大。所以，投资有风险，入市须谨慎。
