由于全球各个国家金融中心地理位置的不同，存在时差的关系，亚洲市场、欧洲市场、美洲市场形成一个全天24小时连续运作的市场，它不会像我们A股一样，只有每天的短短几个小时，每天下午三点时关闭。因此，外汇能够保证，在任何重要事件发生时，都能够正常交易。
虽然外汇市场整天都可以交易，但它不是每时每刻都是活跃的市场，它分为悉尼时段、东京时段、伦敦时段、纽约时段。按北京时间开始，早晨6点起床，就可以关注悉尼时段的交易机会；上午8点开始东京时段的交易；下午15点开始伦敦时段的交易；晚上21点开始纽约时段的交易。正常上午亚洲盘市场稍微缓和一些，而到了下午15点，甚至晚上20点之后，市场非常活跃。
通常每天收盘的时间是GMT(格林威治时间)晚上21点，对应的是北京时间早晨5点左右。因此，每天的开市时间是以惠林顿开市开始，以纽约收市时间结束。周末和法定假期一般都是正常休息的。
与此同时，外汇交易没有手续费、清算费、兑换费等等费用，大多数的交易平台商的通过点差，来获得服务报酬。
