① 在英国定于1月31日正式“脱欧”前夕，欧洲议会29日批准“脱欧”协议，在场议员手拉手齐唱《友谊地久天长》送别英国；
② 当日欧洲议会全会先就“脱欧”协议展开辩论。多数议员在发言中肯定了英国及其议员对欧盟的贡献，又指应从英国“脱欧”一事中汲取教训，重塑欧盟未来；
③ 当晚，议员以“简单多数”机制对协议进行表决，最终以621票赞成、49票反对、13票弃权的表决结果通过“脱欧”协议。富有戏剧性的是，投票结束后，在场议员手拉手唱起苏格兰经典歌曲《友谊地久天长》，以这首家喻户晓的“离别之曲”送别英国。
