In 1936, Russian Countess Sophia moves to Shanghai; the crossroads of the world and the city of political intrigue. After the revolution revoked Sophia's citizenship, she is forced to support herself and her family; she works as a barmaid and dancer in a bar. Sophia meets Jackson; a blind former diplomat who opens a chic nightclub called "The White Countess", and a love affair develops between Sophia and Jackson.
