Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 0.95%, China’s CSI 300 fell 1.25%, and Japan’s Nikkei 225 lost 1.05%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.42%.
US
Stocks fell on Friday after a strong jobs report reduced Wall Street's hopes for additional interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve this year.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 696.75 points, or 1.63%, closing at 41,938.45. The S&P 500 declined 1.54% to 5,827.04, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.63% to 19,161.63. Friday's losses pushed all three major indexes into negative territory for 2025.
Commodity
Gold prices climbed on Friday, supported by uncertainty surrounding the incoming Trump administration, despite stronger-than-expected U.S. jobs data dampening expectations for aggressive Fed rate cuts. Spot gold rose 0.5% to $2,688.40, while U.S. futures gained 1% to $2,717.60.
Oil prices surged after the U.S. imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia’s oil industry. Brent crude rose 3.69% to $79.76 per barrel, and U.S. crude advanced 3.58% to $76.57, marking their highest levels since October.
